Rachel Fay, Ph.D. candidate in Wadsworth Center’s Arbovirology Laboratory, under the mentorship of Dr. Alex Ciota, took first place in the University at Albany’s fourth annual Three Minute Thesis competition with her talk titled, “Increasing the resolution of vector-borne diseases and climate change”. The contest gives all graduate students across all fields at the University at Albany a chance to present their work.
For 37 years, University at Albany students in the School of Public Health’s (SPH) Biomedical Sciences Program and Environmental Health Sciences Program, founding programs in the SPH, have done their research at the Wadsworth Center under the mentorship of Wadsworth Center scientists.
Rachel and her School of Public Health peers are not the only students here. Wadsworth Center has hosted an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) summer program nearly continuously for over 30 years, training more than 300 students. You’d also find CDC and APHL Fellows along with Wadsworth Center Fellows, post-doctoral students, visiting scientists and student volunteers.
