The incumbent will join a research laboratory dedicated to the molecular mechanisms of regulation of drug resistance in mycobacteria. Core responsibilities of the position include planning and conducting experiments, assisting the Principal Investigator with student training and lab management activities, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and presenting findings at conferences and internal meetings. The Clerk II will provide clerical support to the Biggs Administrative Office which is responsible for the Director’s Office (DIR), Division of Laboratory Operations (DLO), Division of Translational Medicine (DTM), Division of Laboratory Quality Certification (DLQC) and Division of Environmental Health Sciences (DEHS) (~397 staff). The incumbent will perform clerical duties related to laboratory practices integral to the divisions’ ability to provide effective and flexible response to public health activities. CLIMS Data Entry & Reporting Unit

The Clerk II will provide clerical support to the Wadsworth Center CLIMS Data Entry & Reporting Unit including performing routine review and verification of data entry demographic and testing information on clinical specimens submitted for laboratory analysis, flagging errors for correction; track, log, and scan specimen history forms; print and mail reports; answer/handle telephone calls and requests from program staff and submitting facilities; route calls to appropriate staff; contact submitters for missing information; assist with basic testing and process validation for the modernization of the CLIMS and HCS CLIMS systems; assist supervisor with training new staff on the data entry process; provide daily work schedule when supervisor is unavailable; enter new facilities and submitters into the database; perform file validation and integrity checks; and assist with performing other appropriate related duties as assigned.

The Assistant Research Scientist will assist with analyzing clinical samples for selected agents of chemical terrorism utilizing various analytical methods on instruments such as Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The Research Scientist I (RS I) will primarily be responsible for performing and monitoring performance quality of an immunoassay assay to detect HIV antibodies in blood specimens, including dried blood spots. Duties include the preparation of samples for testing and performance of the HIV assay; troubleshooting for both the assay and associated instrumentation; preparation and verification of test reagents; review and reporting of HIV test results using the program's Laboratory Information Management System; accessioning of patient samples and blood spot distribution; prepare and update standard operating procedures as needed; conduct validation studies and prepare validation packages required to maintain regulatory compliance; maintain thorough and accurate records of all work completed; conduct training activities to ensure sufficient back up support is available for HIV assay performance; prepare and present data analyses and written reports; provide general lab maintenance including ordering; train/supervise students and/or volunteers, etc. Other appropriate related duties as assigned.

The Senior Laboratory Technician will assist with setting up research experiments on the molecular mechanisms of regulation of drug resistance in mycobacteria. The position involves preparing and setting up for the design and creation of gene knockouts, setting up for next generation of mutant bacteria, and data analysis to decipher regulatory pathways that contribute to intrinsic drug resistance in these bacteria. The incumbent will be responsible for learning established procedures, supporting the establishment of new experimental approaches and assist in generating data for publication.

All are components of the scientific community that is the Wadsworth Center of the New York State Department of Health.  The Business Analyst II will join Wadsworth Center’s Laboratory Information Management System (CLIMS) team to bridge the gap between physical processes of the laboratory and the software components needed to support the evolving laboratory workflows.  The Business Analyst II will be responsible for overseeing and providing guidance to the Wadsworth Center Laboratory Information Management System (CLIMS) Modernization Project team, proposing effective solutions to meet technical and business needs.  The Business Analyst II will bridge the gap between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring that the information technology delivered is designed with a strong focus on user experiences and organizational goal.  While taking a human-centered design approach, the Business Analyst II will collaborate closely with end users and project stakeholders to define and prioritize project requirements for CLIMS functionality. The Business Analyst II will ensure that the new web-based application is designed with user needs and experiences at the forefront. Working in an Agile environment, this position will be responsible for developing user stories informed by user input; maintaining the product backlog; performing system testing and validation, fostering clear communication between stakeholders and the development team, and creating system and training documentation The incumbent will work with laboratory subject matter experts to ensure clear, accurate description of technical requirements.
