The Wadsworth Center’s Division of Laboratory Quality Certification (DLQC) consists of several regulatory programs including the Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (CLEP), the Physician Office Laboratory Evaluation Program (POLEP), the Blood and Tissue Resources Program (BTRP), the Breath Alcohol Permitting Program (BAPP), the Regulated Medical Waste Program (RMW), and the Environmental Laboratory Approval Program (ELAP). These programs provide oversight of clinical and environmental laboratories, tissue banks, manufacturers of alternative systems used to treat medical waste and law officers performing breath alcohol testing. On-site inspections, review of staff qualifications and review of methods are used to ensure compliance with pertinent New York State laws, regulations and standards. The regulatory programs work closely with the Laboratory Investigative Unit (LIU) to investigate allegations of noncompliance. LIU also ensures that appropriate business practices are followed and are responsible for enforcement actions taken against non-compliant entities that we regulate.
