Manufacturers of Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Devices (BAIIDs) submit their devices to independent laboratories which test the devices against the current National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) model specifications.
The Ignition Interlock Program approves devices after reviewing the reports from the laboratories and verifying that additional requirements of Part 59.10 - 59.12 are met.
In order to obtain NYS Department of Health approval, please complete the Application for Ignition Interlock Device (DOH-5005).
Any change that could affect performance, including software changes should require additional testing. No manufacturer who makes an operational modification/ metrological software modification to a model of an ignition interlock device that has been certified pursuant to Part 59 shall release the modified device for use pursuant to Vehicle and Traffic Law Section 1198 without having obtained the express approval of the department.
Complete the Modification Form (DOH-5006), as necessary.
